Naan Tandoori Chicken Pizza

Flavorful and delicious Indian style pizza.


This is not your typical style pizza, this Naan Tandoori style chicken pizza is absolutely delicious. Its is chicken marinated with yogurt and Indian spices , placed on a naan bread and in a flavorful sauce, topped off with sliced onions, Mexican style cheese and garnished with cilantro.


My Naan Tandoori style chicken pizza is a must try. For this particular recipe, I used a store bought naan bread however, you can also use homemade naan as well so it is totally up to you.


For the chicken:

You can grill, bake or cut the chicken into cubes and cook on stove top. If you do cook the chicken on the stove top, make sure to cook it until the yogurt thickens. for this recipe, I cooked in on the stove top with 1 tablespoonful of canola oil.


Tip 1: Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes or overnight. The longer you keep the chicken marinated the more tender and flavorful the chicken pieces will be.

INSTRUCTIONS:


  1. Cut chicken into bite size pieces and marinate with spices and yogurt and let sit for a 30 minutes to a few hours so it is more flavorful

  2. In a medium pan heat 1-3 tbsp of oil , add in your marinated chicken pieces and cook on medium heat until chicken pieces are cooked thoroughly and the yogurt sauce is thick. You will know when the yogurt sauce absorbs all the chicken, most likely chicken is cooked all the way through then set aside.

  3. In the medium size pan add in 2 tbsp. of oil, your garlic and ginger and cook until they are fragrant. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, and cumin powder. Cook for about a minute on medium heat , make sure you are stirring occasionally to prevent from burning on sticking to pan.

  4. Add in your crushed tomatoes, ground chili powder, cayenne pepper (optional) and salt. Let cook on medium high heat until tomato has thickened ( for about 15 minutes ). Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent sauce sticking to bottom of pan and burning. Once sauce has thicken turn off heat.

  5. Chop your cilantro and slice onions. Shred chicken or dice chicken (preference) or leave into bite size cubes. Assemble pizza, spread sauce, and cheese. Add in your chicken pieces , sliced onions , a little cilantro and some more cheese and bake in the oven on 450 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from oven, Let cool down for a few minutes , cut into slices and Enjoy while hot.



RECIPE:

This recipe serves about 4-6 people

INGREDIENTS

About 4 large naan or about 6 slices naan bread 
2 cups mozzarella cheese 
2 cups shredded cheese (Mexican blend cheese)
1/4 cup cilantro for garnish
1 medium red onion sliced
  
for the chicken 
3 medium size boneless, skinless chicken breast or boneless, skinless chicken thighs about 1 to 1.5 lb. 
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 tbsp oil
a splash of food coloring (optional)
1-2 tbsp oil
4 garlic cloves diced or minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp salt to taste 
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp ground chili powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp (less or more) of Cayenne pepper 
1/2 of lime squeezed
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
2 tsp dried kasoori methi (optional)
For the sauce:
2 cups crushed tomatoes or (1 can 14 oz crushed tomatoes) 
1-3 tbsp oil
1 tsp of grated ginger
3 garlic cloves grated or chopped
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp salt or to taste
1 tbsp ground chili powder
1 tsp cayenne powder or to taste
