Delicious homemade apple turnovers that are perfect your apple pie cravings.

These Apple turnovers will sure satisfy your apple pie craving. They are filled with apples that are cooked with butter, cinnamon, brown sugar and perfectly tender.

For this Particular recipe, I used store bought pastry dough and Honey Crisp

Apples. However, you can also use Granny Smith Apples, these were the only apples we had at the time but don't worry they still turned out amazing.

Guess what?

These Apple Turnovers are actually easier than you expect. Most of the ingredients can be found in your home or at your local grocery market and very inexpensive. Once you make these home, you will never buy store bought apple turnovers again.

Here's How to make it:

RECIPE:

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

  2. Thaw pastry dough as instructed on packaging

  3. Melt 2 tbsp of unsalted butter on a medium sauce pan on medium heat, add in your apples and cook for about 5 minutes or until soft. Make sure to stir occasionally.

  4. Reduce the heat and add in 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and cook until apples are soft and caramelized. Once ready, remove from heat and set aside.

  5. Unfold your thawed pastry dough, cut into squares. You should get about 6 squares, these will make 6 medium size turnovers.

  6. Place the cooled apple mixture into the center of each square and fold over from corner to corner to form a triangle shape and press the edges with a fork to seal. Beat 1 egg and 1 tbsp of water and brush egg wash lightly on pastry dough.

  7. Place the formed turnovers into a lined baking sheet and leave about and inch or so apart.

  8. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

  9. While they are baking in the oven , prepare your glaze by adding 1/2 cup of powdered sugar into a mixing bowl, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1-2 tbsp of heavy whipping cream. Slowly add in you heavy whipping cream to get the right consistency. You might need more or less of heavy whipping cream. If you do add in too much heavy whipping cream, just add in more of powdered sugar and mix.

  10. Once Turnovers are ready, drizzle over the glaze while they are still warm and enjoy!
